What are engineered stone benchtops made of?

Composed of crushed quartz and resin bound together, engineered stone benchtops are designed to create a solid, dense and non-porous surface that is consistently colored, has superior strength and is highly resistant to staining compared to natural stone.
Engineered stone can handle a great deal of heat; however, placing hot pans directly on the surface will compromise the quality of the product. Using trivets or pads can preserve the quality and appearance of engineered stone surfaces.
Use a soft cloth with a gentle liquid type of detergent and warm water to clean. Clean up spills as they happen, do not use harsh chemicals, and do not use a cloth that will scratch. Most common cleaning agents can be used on this type of material; however, sealing it is usually not needed due to the surface finish.
Maintenance is limited to cleaning regularly, using mats on ends of the surface to avoid breaking off and limiting impact on the surface. You should clean most spills right away, don't have to reseal, keeping the surface uniform looking and lasting longer.
